Xin Nian Kuai Le! (Happy Chinese New Year!)

It snowed on January first so I took a picture of the courtyard in front of my apartment.

The area was full of Chinese statues of wise philosophers, but it looked very beautiful because the men were decorating for the upcoming Chinese New Year. Notice the ice. So cold!



Leah and Sue at the Happy Mall. The department took us out to dinner to thank us for teaching the first semester. Leah picked us up and drove us to Papa Johns which is a very nice pizza place, like in the United States. But in China you don't just order pizza and eat that. We also had soup, pizza, noodles, and chicken and potato wedges. The Chinese like lots of variety with their meals. Believe it or not, I am actually getting used to drinking hot water for meals. It was yummy! Plus, we got to visit with Leah and Eric, another teacher from the Translation Department. He is the one who contacted me about doing the editing. Fun night! I learned a lot from talking with them.

 

 

Three men came along, each holding several Chinese lanterns. Each of them climbed up in a tree and started hanging the lanterns from the branches. They would not stop to pose for us, so I took their pictures in the trees.
